as the chorus was doing. Perhaps we could then leave the auditorium with an even greater measure of gay fellowship for our everyday lives.
We need this extra push, Mr. Kramer, for we are still too unsure to initiate it ourselves, that is, to a gay stranger on the basis of mytual gayness alone.

But we did turn out to support the chorus, we were deeply moved by what you did give, and we are proud of the fact that this is a gay chorus: a first-rate choral group that is gay.
Of the 144 members in the tors, lawyers, teachers, pharmacomplete chorus there are doccists, nurses, sales clerks, waiters, two hairdressers, one interior decorator, and a butcher--and many other occupations. Every religious background is represented, including Catholic priests, ex-monks, Hindus, and a Mormon bishop. There are white, black, and Oriental members. The ages range from 22 to 56.
One thing, though, amid all this heterogeneity puzzled me: why are the majority of the members short? Why are there only a very few tall ones? Many six-footers are gay; six-footers with fine voices.
The San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus made its debut on December 20, 1978, being organized from gay musical groups in San Francisco. It solidified soon after under Dick Kramer, a choral music specialist who has performed with the Santa Fe Opera, the Roger Wagner Choral, and the Carmel Bach Festival. The forceful Mr. Kramer first conducted the group on the night Harvey Milk was assassinated, in abymo go the steps of the San Francisco City Hall at the end of
the gay candlelight march and vigil.
The chorus is part of GALA, an expanding association of gay and lesbian musical groups across the United States and Canada.

existence, it has met with homowhen the Catholic archbishop of phobia, such as this past spring San Francisco canceled a contract for the chorus to appear in St. Ignatius Church. The chorus has appeared in various Protestant churches in San Francisco, apparently without incident.
The chorus cannot be accused of male chauvinism. Appearing with it was the Bay Area Women's Brass Quartet.
At the end of the tour the chorus returned to San Francisco tc perform in Davies Symphony Hall as part of Gay Pride Weel
